Statistical bulletins

Stat'ags, the quarterly statistical Bulletin of the Délégation Unédic AGS, presents statistics on beleaguered companies and on the impact of receivership proceedings.

Summary of the quartely statistical bulletin

Délégation Unédic AGS has the permanent goal of sharing with an increasing number of people, the exclusive statistics in its possession about collective procedures.

Accordingly, this newsletter presents the latest data extracted from our decision-making information system. The quantified series are calculated over a sliding 12-month period, i.e., a comparison between the last 12 months, taken at the end of the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2018, with the 12 previous months.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers a Happy New Year 2019.

Continuous decline in cases opened under the AGS guarantee scheme

In a lacklustre economic context, the number of company failures, calculated over a 12-month sliding period, remains on a downward trend but the decline is becoming less and less significant. The latest statistics published by Banque de France show 53,496 liquidations and receiverships in the 12 months ended at the end of September 2018, reflecting a -2.7% reduction compared to the figure recorded at the end of September 2017. According to still provisional data, the decrease would be -1.6% at the end of October 2018. This can be explained in particular, as stressed by Altares, by an increase this summer in the number of business failures.

On the same trajectory, cases opened under the AGS guarantee scheme, have generally followed a downward trend. Their total number fell in 2018 by -4.2% compared to 2017. This decline concerns nearly all workforce brackets, with the exception of companies with 100 employees and more. Note that the sector combining teaching, health and social action is the only sector that shows a significant increase.

The total number of commenced protection procedures, a statistic tracked by Délégation Unédic AGS since 2006, continues to fall sharply: by -12.9% in the last 12 months.

Amount of advances close to pre-crisis levels

The number of employees benefiting from the AGS guarantee scheme and the amount of advances continue to fall, but in proportions that are falling. The amount of advances in the last 12 months has been at a level similar to the one observed in 2008.

The AGS Board of Directors meeting held on 12 December 2018 decided to maintain the contribution rate unchanged at 0.15%.
